2000 Volkswagen Golf

After a major redesign for the 1999 model year, the Volkswagen Golf gets only
a few modifications for the 2000 model year. It is basically a carry-over from
last year's model except for a few new interesting features. These new features
greatly increase the performance and comfort of the Volkswagen Golf.
The 2000 Volkswagen Golf is available in two major body styles: a 3-door and
a 4-door hatchback (counting the rear hatch as doors). A 1.8 liter turbocharged
engine that produces 150 hp is added to the list of engine options for the hatchback,
which also includes the 2.8 liter 174 hp VR6, the 2.0 liter 115 hp I4, and the
1.9 liter turbo-diesel I4. The 1.8 liter engine is standard for the new GLS 1.8T
trim and the GTI GLS 1.8T trim. This new engine provides the car with a quicker
acceleration and more low-end torque. The vehicle is still available in the standard
5-speed manual transmission while the 4-speed automatic transmission is available
as an option.
While there are only few new features and equipments introduced for this year,
they proved to be exciting for every Volkswagen Golf buyer. Notable new features
include an anti-theft-coded ignition keys and a dashboard light illuminated when
possible brake malfunction is sensed. Another outstanding new feature is the 8-speaker
Monsoon sound system with in-dash CD player, available as optional equipment for
all models.
